In an article entitled “Hypnosis” published in The American Weekly section of The Washington Post (January 1, 1960), Ann Cutler, the author, reports:
At a recent American Medical Association convention  thousands of doctors from every part of the United States gathered in Atlantic City to hear the latest findings in medicine. So enthusiastic has been the acceptance of medical hypnosis by the medical profession that it is estimated that more than 10,000 doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists, and dentists who have had training in the use of hypnotic techniques are using it in their daily practice. The positive results are phenomenally high.

Regarding the successful benefits of self-hypnosis, the author cites the case of Mr. M., an important Wall Street executive, whose blood pressure “shot up to 240 when the market went off or one of his special projects failed to work. He had been on medication with poor results. His family doctor, trained in the use of hypnosis in medicine decided to try it on his executive patient.”
At the first session, Mr. M’s blood pressure went down from 240 to 231.  But the following week he was able to, go deeper into hypnosis and his pressure dropped to 175. From then on he was on the mend so much so that he has been taught self-hypnosis and now puts himself under in ‘moments of tension.”
